Description: Daylight, a 1996 action thriller, follows a gripping tale of survival and heroism. In upstate New York, a waste management company loads barrels of toxic waste onto trucks, planning to illegally dispose of them in New Jersey. These trucks enter a tunnel beneath the Hudson River alongside various commuters, including Maddy Thompson, a struggling playwright, a bus of juvenile offenders, a vacationing family, an elderly couple with their dog, and Roy Nord, a sporting goods retailer. Meanwhile, a gang of criminals steals gems from a dealer, escapes in his car, and races into the tunnel to avoid the police. Their reckless driving causes a collision with one of the trucks, triggering a massive explosion that collapses the tunnel and engulfs it in flames, trapping and killing most of the motorists.
Kit Latura, a former New York City Emergency Medical Services Chief now working as a taxi driver, witnesses the explosion at the Manhattan end of the tunnel. Despite warnings from an old colleague about the tunnel’s instability, Kit ventures inside through the ventilation system, risking his life to save survivors. Inside, Roy Nord leads a group of survivors, believing they can escape through a mid-river service corridor. However, Kit warns Nord of the corridor’s fragility, but Nord ignores the danger, leading to a tragic collapse that claims his life and causes another explosion, killing one of the juvenile offenders. Kit’s courage and determination become the survivors’ only hope as they struggle to escape the disaster.
