Description: In 1975, an eight-year-old Jean Grey experiences a tragic car accident with her parents, resulting in their deaths and leaving her orphaned. Professor Charles Xavier takes her to Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, promising to help her use her abilities for good.
By 1992, the X-Men respond to a distress call from the Space Shuttle Endeavour, which has been damaged by solar flare energy. During the rescue mission, Jean is struck by the energy but survives, absorbing it and saving her team’s aircraft. However, the energy amplifies her psychic powers, causing her emotional state to deteriorate. As her stress grows, Jean struggles to control her abilities, accidentally unleashing her powers on mutants celebrating their mission’s success at Xavier’s school.
Xavier reveals that he had placed mental blocks in Jean’s mind as a child to shield her from her traumatic past. These blocks are shattered by her enhanced powers, causing her childhood trauma to resurface. Jean travels to her hometown after visions of her father, only to discover he had survived the crash but abandoned her. She fully remembers the accident and realizes she had unintentionally caused her mother’s death by using her telepathy at a young age. Overwhelmed by guilt and grief, she develops post-traumatic stress disorder, and her powers spiral further out of control.
The X-Men attempt to intervene, but during a confrontation, Jean lashes out, tragically killing Raven and injuring Peter Maximoff. Distraught, Jean flees as Hank McCoy mourns Raven’s death.
