Description: The film “Dara of Jasenovac” (2020) tells the harrowing story of the Kozara Offensive, where the Axis forces led to the imprisonment of most of the local Serb population in concentration camps run by the Ustaše and Nazi Germany in the Independent State of Croatia. The narrative follows ten-year-old Dara Ilić as she, along with her mother and brothers, is forcibly marched to the Jasenovac concentration camp.
At the train station, overseen by Father Miroslav Filipović, the elderly and sick are separated from the group and executed, with Dara witnessing the brutal killings. Upon arrival at the camp, Dara’s mother and older brother are killed by the Ustaše, leaving her to care for her younger brother. Determined to ensure his survival, Dara, with the help of a Jewish prisoner named Blankica, devises a plan to escape the horrors of the camp.
The film portrays the resilience and courage of Dara as she navigates the atrocities of the concentration camp, striving to protect her younger brother and survive the unimaginable conditions.
