Description: Gulrez “Gullu” Qadir, portrayed by Parineeti Chopra, is a shoe-salesgirl at a mall in a lower-middle-class neighborhood of Hyderabad. She dreams of moving to America and lives with her father, Abdul Qadir, played by Anupam Kher, who is searching for a suitable match for her. However, his inability to afford a large dowry limits her options to undesirable suitors. Despite these challenges, Gullu remains optimistic and humorous.
In her pursuit of love, she meets Amjad, played by Karan Wahi, and they decide to marry. However, Amjad’s parents demand a dowry of Rs. 80 lakhs, shattering her hopes. Furious, Gullu devises a plan to entrap a dowry-seeking groom under the IPC 498A (dowry act) to recover money for her American dream.
She and her father travel to Lucknow under false identities, targeting Tariq “Taru” Haider, the manager of a renowned restaurant called “Big Boss Haidari Kebab,” played by Aditya Roy Kapur. When Tariq’s parents demand a dowry, Gullu secretly records the conversation. Over the days leading to the wedding, Gullu and Taru grow closer, and she starts to develop feelings for him. Surprisingly, Taru provides Rs. 40 lakhs from his savings to fulfill the dowry demand, ensuring his father’s traditions are upheld without it being a real dowry. This act leaves Gullu conflicted and re-evaluating her original plan.
