Description: During the Vietnam War, a group of Black US Army soldiers from the 1st Infantry Division, known as the “Bloods”—Paul, Otis, Eddie, Melvin, and their squad leader Norman—discover a crashed CIA plane and its cargo: gold bars meant as payment for the Lahu people for their assistance in fighting the Viet Cong. The group decides to take the gold for themselves, burying it to retrieve later. However, during a Vietnamese counter-attack, Norman is killed, and the napalm strike destroys the landmarks, leaving the gold’s location lost.
In the present day, Paul, Otis, Eddie, and Melvin reunite in Ho Chi Minh City after a landslide uncovers the tail of the crashed plane. Hoping to find the gold and Norman’s remains, they plan an expedition. Otis reconnects with his former Vietnamese girlfriend, Tiên, who reveals he is the father of her adult child. Tiên introduces the group to Desroche, a French businessman who agrees to help smuggle the gold out of Vietnam once it’s retrieved. Paul’s son, David, who has a strained relationship with his father, joins them.
With the help of Vinh, a local tour guide, the group ventures into the countryside. A confrontation with a merchant forces Paul to confront his struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder. Meanwhile, at a hotel bar, David meets Hedy, the founder of an organization dedicated to clearing landmines.
