Set in 1980s Mumbai, the film explores the rise of various mafia gangs, including the one led by Dawood and his brother Shaabir. Initially working with other gangs, the brothers eventually form their own. The story touches on Dawood’s love for Sujata and Shaabir’s relationship with Chitra. After Shaabir is killed by rival gangs, Dawood vows to transform his gang into a dominant force.
RGV narrates the events, promising to continue the story in the next episode. However, despite his fascination with the mafia world, the film fails to bring anything new to the genre. It reiterates familiar tropes and clichés, offering little excitement. The portrayal of Dawood as a shrewd and intelligent criminal adding a layer of depth to his character, but overall, the film feels repetitive and uninspired.
While it provides insight into the early days of Dawood Ibrahim’s criminal empire, “D Company” struggles to stand out in RGV’s long line of gangster films. Fans of the genre may find some interest, but it largely falls short of expectations.
