Description: In the 1997 film *Cube*, a man named Alderson dies in a mysterious cube-shaped room, and five strangers—Quentin, Worth, Holloway, Leaven, and Rennes—awaken in a similar space. None know their location or how they arrived. Quentin warns the group about traps in some rooms, which he discovered earlier. Rennes, a convict with a history of prison escapes, assumes motion sensors trigger the traps and tests rooms by tossing his boot inside. The maze is plagued by tremors, and Leaven notices numbers etched in the passageways. When Rennes enters what he believes is a safe room, he is killed by acid, revealing that traps are activated by various sensors.
Quentin speculates that each person was selected for a reason: he is a divorced cop, Leaven is a math student, Holloway is a doctor, and Worth is a moody office worker. Leaven theorizes that rooms marked with prime numbers are traps. The group discovers Kazan, a mentally challenged man, whom Holloway insists they bring along. Quentin suffers an injury in a room Leaven thought was safe, escalating tensions as conflicts and the maze’s purpose remain unclear. Finally, Worth reveals he designed the cube’s outer shell for a secretive organization, guessing the maze’s original purpose has been lost.
Using Worth’s knowledge of the cube’s dimensions, Leaven calculates that each side consists of 26 rooms, totaling 17,576 rooms. She deduces that the numbers represent the Cartesian coordinates of each room.
