**Plot Summary:**
In 1998, Adonis “Donnie” Johnson, the son of the late heavyweight champion Apollo Creed and his extramarital partner, is in a Los Angeles juvenile detention center when Apollo’s widow, Mary Anne, visits him and offers to become his guardian. By 2015, Donnie is in Tijuana, preparing for an amateur boxing match in a bar. After returning from the fight, he quits his job at Smith Boardley Financial Group to pursue his dream of becoming a professional boxer.
Donnie auditions at the prestigious Delphi Boxing Academy in Los Angeles, managed by family friend Tony “Little Duke” Evers Jr., the son of Apollo’s former trainer. However, he is rejected and further humiliated after losing a sparring match to Danny “The Stuntman” Wheeler, a top contender in the light heavyweight division. Mary Anne strongly opposes his boxing aspirations, still haunted by the memory of Apollo’s death in the ring at the hands of Ivan Drago decades earlier.
Determined, Donnie travels to Philadelphia to seek out his father’s old rival and friend, Rocky Balboa, a former heavyweight champion. He finds Rocky at Adrian’s, an Italian restaurant named in honor of Rocky’s late wife. Donnie asks Rocky to train him, but Rocky is hesitant, having retired from boxing after a career marked by injuries. Eventually, Rocky agrees to coach Donnie.
As Donnie trains at the Front Street Gym with Rocky’s longtime friends as his corner team, he learns about his father’s legacy and even finds love with Bianca, an aspiring singer-songwriter. Fighting under his mother’s surname, Johnson, and the nickname “Hollywood,” Donnie wins a match against local boxer Leo “The Lion” Sporino, sparking tension with his opponents.
Rocky reveals details about a secret third fight between himself and Apollo, which Apollo won after helping Rocky reclaim the heavyweight title. Together, Donnie and Rocky prepare for the challenges that lie ahead as Donnie strives to carve out his own path in the world of boxing.
