**Storyline:**
Violet Sanford leaves her hometown of South Amboy, New Jersey, her father Bill, and her best friend Gloria to pursue her dream of becoming a songwriter in New York City. Despite multiple attempts, she struggles to get her demo tape noticed by recording studios. One evening, she tries to attract the attention of a music industry scout, but a bartender plays a joke on her by pointing to Kevin O’Donnell as the bar manager. When Violet discovers the prank, she feels hurt and embarrassed, thinking Kevin wanted to humiliate her.
After her apartment is burglarized, and with little money left, Violet visits an all-night diner. There, she notices three girls—Cammie, Rachel, and Zoe—showing off their impressive tips. She learns they work at a popular bar called Coyote Ugly.
Determined, Violet convinces the bar owner, Lil, to give her an audition. Her first attempt doesn’t go well, but after breaking up a fight between customers, she gets a second chance. During her second audition, Violet accidentally douses the fire warden with water, costing Lil $250. Lil agrees to hire her if she can earn $250 in a single night.
When Kevin shows up at the bar, Violet auctions him off to another woman to raise the money. Feeling obligated, Violet agrees to go on four dates with Kevin, and the two begin a relationship. Kevin helps Violet overcome her stage fright, a challenge she must face to get her songs heard. Violet reveals she inherited this fear from her late mother, who also moved to New York to pursue her singing dreams. Despite her fear, Violet manages to sing karaoke at the bar to help her coworkers break up another fight.
