Description: “Couples Retreat,” a 2009 comedy film, follows the story of several couples navigating the challenges of their relationships. Dave, a Guitar Hero salesperson, and Ronnie, a stay-at-home mom, live a typical suburban life in Chicago, raising their two young kids. Meanwhile, Joey and Lucy, high school sweethearts, struggle to keep their marriage intact as their intelligent yet naive teenage daughter, Lacey, prepares for college. Jason and Cynthia, another couple, face emotional turmoil after multiple failed attempts to conceive. Lastly, Shane, who is separated but not yet divorced, is dating a much younger woman, Trudy.
During a birthday party for Dave’s son, Jason and Cynthia reveal their marital struggles and propose a unique solution: a couples therapy retreat at a resort called Eden. They explain that a special package, the Pelican Offer, is available at half price if three other couples join them. Despite hesitation, Dave and Ronnie initially decline, citing their responsibilities as parents. However, after a late-night incident involving their kids overhearing their concerns, the couple decides to attend the retreat, thanks to their children arranging babysitting with Grandpa Jim-Jim.
The retreat is divided into two sections: Eden West for couples, with the motto “Stay Together,” and Eden East. The film explores the ups and downs of the couples’ experiences as they work through their issues in this tropical setting.
