**Storyline:**
In the rural areas of Mexico, a scavenger named Manuel discovers a spearhead wrapped in a Nazi flag within the ruins of an old church. This artifact is later identified as the legendary Spear of Destiny. Soon after, Manuel becomes possessed and travels to the United States.
In Los Angeles, John Constantine, an occult detective, is summoned by Father Hennessy to perform an exorcism on a girl possessed by a demon attempting to break into Earth. This defies the established rules of a wager between God and Lucifer over humanity’s souls. Constantine’s apprentice, Chas Kramer, waits outside, as Constantine believes Chas isn’t yet ready for such tasks. Later, Constantine encounters Gabriel, a half-angel, seeking a reprieve from his impending death due to lung cancer caused by years of smoking. Gabriel denies his request, stating that Constantine’s motivations for exorcising demons are selfish, and he cannot earn his way into Heaven because of his past actions.
After a confrontation with another demon, Constantine visits Papa Midnite, a renowned witch doctor who operates a neutral club where supernatural beings can exist without hiding their true nature. Midnite dismisses Constantine’s claims about demons crossing over, leading to a tense exchange between Constantine and a half-demon named Balthazar.
Meanwhile, Isabel Dodson, a devout Catholic, commits suicide in a psychiatric hospital. Her twin sister, Detective Angela Dodson, refuses to accept that Isabel would take her own life. Reviewing the security footage, Angela hears Isabel mention Constantine’s name. Determined to uncover the truth, Angela seeks out Constantine for help. After they are attacked by winged demons, Constantine agrees to investigate Isabel’s death.
Through a ritual involving a familiar, Constantine briefly enters Hell and witnesses Isabel’s soul condemned to relive her suicide endlessly. As proof, he retrieves her hospital wristband. Constantine explains to Angela that he possesses the ability to see the true nature of supernatural beings.
