In 1985, drug smuggler Andrew C. Thornton II accidentally drops a shipment of cocaine from his plane. While attempting to parachute out with a duffel bag full of cocaine, he hits his head on the plane and falls to his death. His body is discovered in Knoxville, Tennessee, where local detective Bob identifies him and traces the cocaine’s origin to St. Louis drug kingpin Syd White. Meanwhile, in the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest, a female American black bear consumes some of the cocaine, becoming highly aggressive and attacking two hikers, Elsa and Olaf.
In northeast Georgia, middle schooler Dee Dee lives with her mother, Sari, a nurse. Frustrated with her mom for altering their weekend plans to visit Nashville with Sari’s new boyfriend, Dee Dee skips school with her best friend Henry to paint the falls. They stumble upon a brick of cocaine, and Henry, trying to impress Dee Dee, claims he has used cocaine before. After taking some, they are attacked by the bear. Sari, realizing where the kids might be, heads into the forest with Ranger Liz and her crush, Peter. They find Henry clinging to a tree, but the bear attacks, injuring Liz before she leaves to seek help.
As Peter accidentally stumbles onto one of the cocaine bricks, the bear becomes fixated on him instead of Henry, leading to Peter’s fatal fall from the tree. Sari and Henry manage to escape. Meanwhile, in St. Louis, Syd sends his fixer Daveed to recover the remaining cocaine. Daveed travels to Georgia with Eddie, Syd’s grieving son, who has been struggling since his wife’s death. Upon arrival, they encounter Bob, who leaves his dog with officer Reba. At the forest station, Daveed clashes with the troublesome Duchamps gang, three delinquents causing chaos in the area.
The movie delivers a gripping tale of danger, survival, and chaos as the cocaine-fueled bear wreaks havoc in the forest, intertwining the fates of the characters in a suspenseful narrative.
