**Storyline:**
Rangers Gabriel “Gabe” Walker and Jessie Deighan are sent to rescue their friend Hal Tucker and his girlfriend, Sarah, after Hal injures his knee, leaving them stranded on a peak in the Colorado Rockies. During the rescue attempt, Sarah’s harness breaks. Gabe manages to grab her, but she slips from his grip and falls to her death. Blaming Gabe for the tragedy, Hal is consumed with anger, while Gabe is overwhelmed with guilt, eventually taking a long leave.
Eight months later, Gabe returns to the ranger station to collect his belongings and convince Jessie to leave with him. While there, they receive a distress call from stranded climbers. Hal sets out to locate them, and Jessie persuades Gabe to assist. Hal’s bitterness toward Gabe remains, even threatening to push him off a ledge. Upon finding the climbers, they realize the distress call was a trap and are taken captive by a gang of ruthless international thieves led by Eric Qualen, a psychotic former Military Intelligence operative. The gang includes the brutal Kynette, sadistic Delmar, and pilot Kristel.
Qualen and his accomplice, turncoat U.S. Treasury agent Richard Travers, had stolen three suitcases containing over $100 million in uncirculated bills from a mid-air transfer between aircraft. Their plan went awry when an FBI agent they believed to be dead damaged their plane’s hydraulics, causing it to crash into the mountain. Now, they force Gabe and Hal to locate the suitcases using beacon locators. At gunpoint, Gabe is forced to climb a steep rock face to retrieve the first case. When Qualen plans to kill Gabe after securing the case, Hal warns him not to return.
