**Plot Summary:**
King Acrisius of Argos imprisons his daughter Danaë to prevent a prophecy that her child will cause his downfall. When Zeus impregnates her, Acrisius casts Danaë and her newborn son Perseus adrift in a wooden chest. In retaliation, Zeus kills Acrisius and commands Poseidon to unleash the Kraken, a massive sea monster, to destroy Argos. Danaë and Perseus safely reach the island of Seriphos, where Perseus grows into adulthood.
Calibos, the rebellious son of the sea goddess Thetis, is betrothed to Princess Andromeda of Joppa. After committing crimes against Zeus, including destroying his sacred flying horses, Zeus transforms Calibos into a monstrous creature. Seeking revenge, Thetis transports Perseus to Joppa, where he meets a soldier named Thallo and an elderly poet, Ammon. Perseus learns that Andromeda is cursed and can only marry if a suitor solves Calibos’s riddle, risking execution if he fails.
Zeus aids Perseus with gifts: an invisibility helmet from Athena, a magical sword from Aphrodite, and a shield from Hera. Using the helmet, Perseus captures Pegasus and discovers the riddle by intercepting one of Calibos’s giant vultures. During a confrontation, Perseus cuts off Calibos’s hand but loses the helmet.
The next day, Perseus correctly solves the riddle, winning Andromeda’s hand in marriage. Enraged, Calibos demands Thetis take revenge on Joppa. At the wedding, Queen Cassiopeia boasts that Andromeda’s beauty surpasses Thetis’s, provoking an earthquake that destroys Thetis’s statue. Thetis demands Andromeda be sacrificed to the Kraken to save Joppa.
