Description: The movie “Churuli” (2021) follows the story of a monk named Thirumeni who ventures into a forest to capture an entity known as Perumadan, which misguides people who lose their way. During his journey, he encounters a mysterious forest where animals, trees, and plants seem to recognize him. He stumbles upon a ball, which turns out to be an anteater named Eenampechi. Carrying it on his head, he continues his journey, only to hear the anteater speak. The creature offers to lead him back to the right path, but it is later revealed that the anteater is, in fact, the entity Perumadan. The monk remains unaware of this as he continues to wander.
The narrative shifts to a real-life scenario where two policemen go undercover in the forest to arrest a man named Joy. Posing as workers hired to dig pits for rubber trees, they arrive at a remote bar where the local community lives a peculiar life, using the same space for drinking, celebrating, and even as a place of worship. One of the policemen, Shajivan, is young and curious. He experiences strange dreams of alien-like creatures with LED masks and a mysterious spiral. During his exploration, he encounters an old woman who claims to have seen him before and becomes hostile when he mentions his purpose in the forest. Frightened, he urges his superior, Anthony, to call for reinforcements, but his request is dismissed. As the story unfolds, Shajivan discovers an abandoned house where he witnesses mysterious lights, rotating gears, and enigmatic entities. The film blends elements of myth and reality, creating an eerie and surreal experience.
