Description: Chungking Express (1994) is a captivating film that intertwines two distinct stories of love and longing. The narrative begins with Officer He Qiwu, a Taiwanese cop, who is left heartbroken when his girlfriend May breaks up with him on April 1st. To test the sincerity of her decision, Qiwu decides to wait for a month, purchasing a can of pineapples with an expiration date of May 1st each day, as May loved pineapples. Meanwhile, a mysterious woman with a blonde wig navigates the dangerous drug underworld after a smuggling operation goes awry.
On May 1st, Qiwu encounters the blonde woman at the Bottoms Up Club. Exhausted, she falls asleep in a hotel room, leaving Qiwu to watch old movies and order food. Before leaving, he polishes her shoes and departs while she rests. The next morning, she leaves and confronts the drug baron who betrayed her. Later, Qiwu receives a birthday message from her on his pager. While jogging, he visits his usual snack store, where he meets Faye, a new employee.
The second story follows another police officer struggling with a breakup, this time with a flight attendant. Faye secretly develops feelings for him. One day, the flight attendant visits the snack store, leaves a letter for the officer, and departs. The letter contains keys to his apartment. Faye informs him about the letter, but he delays reading it. Using the keys, Faye begins sneaking into his apartment to clean and redecorate, gradually lifting his spirits.
Eventually, the officer discovers Faye’s visits and realizes her affection for him. He arranges a date at a restaurant called California, but Faye doesn’t show up. Instead, her cousin informs him that Faye has left for California, USA. She leaves behind a hand-drawn boarding pass on a napkin, dated one year later. A year passes, and Faye, now a flight attendant, returns to Hong Kong. She finds that the officer has bought the snack store and is transforming it into a restaurant.
