Description: “Chotushkone” is a 2014 Bengali film that begins with a mysterious woman writing a suicide note before taking her own life. A man is seen holding a child’s hand, silently observing the tragic scene. The story then shifts to the past, depicted in black and white, where Nilanjana (played by Trina) and her cynical boyfriend Ritwick (Dipto) engage in a heated argument about parties and movies during a bar gathering. The narrative transitions to the present, where Joy discusses a film project with a producer named Mr. Gupta.
Joy contacts Trina and persuades her to collaborate with him, her ex-lover Dipto, and Shakyo to create a movie consisting of four short films. Despite initial tensions between Shakyo and Dipto over creative differences, they agree to work together. The four meet at Joy’s house, where he reveals that they must travel to Henry’s Island in Bakkhali to pitch their scripts to the producer. The common theme of their stories is death.
As they prepare for their journey, Shakyo and Dipto share their ideas. Shakyo plans to present an old story about a TV serial writer who brutally kills his characters, suffers a heart attack upon seeing their apparitions, and dies. On the way to Bakkhali, Trina and Joy discuss Dipto’s personal struggles. Dipto, distracted by a phone call, narrowly avoids an accident, which inspires him to craft a story about a chain smoker who is fatally hit by a car while buying cigarettes at midnight.
Their car breaks down, forcing them to take refuge in a bungalow owned by Mr. Gupta. Trina shares her story about a deceased woman summoning the spirits of the living through a planchette. The next morning, Joy reveals a deeply personal tale involving his brother, who lost his sanity, and his wife, who died because Trina, Dipto, and Shakyo abandoned his brother’s film project due to conflicts. Consumed by grief and anger, Joy attempts to kill them by playing Russian roulette. However, the gun misfires, striking Joy instead and leading to his death.
