The story is set in a world where humans and cartoon characters coexist. Chip and Dale meet in elementary school and form a strong friendship despite being outcasts. However, their partnership falls apart during the filming of season three when Dale reveals he has landed a solo role in a spy show called Double-O-Dale, which Chip sees as a betrayal. This leads to their separation and the eventual cancellation of the series.
Thirty years later, Chip has become an insurance salesman, while Dale continues his acting career, undergoing CGI surgery to enhance his appearance and spending much of his time at fan conventions. Their paths cross again when their former co-star Monterey Jack reaches out for help after falling into debt due to his cheese addiction. Together, they must reunite to face new challenges and repair their fractured friendship.
