Description: “Children of Heaven” is a 1997 Persian film that tells a touching story of family and resilience. The movie begins with Ali, a young boy, picking up his sister Zahra’s repaired pink shoes from a cobbler. While he stops to buy potatoes, a homeless man mistakenly takes the shoes, thinking they were trash. Desperate to find them, Ali searches frantically but ends up causing a commotion at a grocery store.
Ali’s family lives in a poor neighborhood in South Tehran and is struggling financially. Fearing his parents’ reaction, Ali decides not to tell them about the lost shoes. Instead, he confides in Zahra, and the two siblings agree to keep it a secret. They come up with a plan to share Ali’s sneakers: Zahra wears them to school in the morning, then quickly returns them to Ali so he can attend his afternoon classes. Despite their efforts, Ali ends up being late multiple times, risking expulsion from school. His teacher, recognizing his dedication and academic excellence, convinces the principal to give him another chance.
The film beautifully portrays the bond between the siblings and their determination to overcome challenges together.
