**Storyline:**
Chhatriwali, which translates to “woman with an umbrella,” is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language romantic comedy film directed by Tejas Deoskar and produced by Ronnie Screwvala. The movie features Rakul Preet Singh, Sumeet Vyas, Satish Kaushik, Dolly Ahluwalia, and Rajesh Tailang in prominent roles. The filming began in November 2021, primarily in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, and concluded by December 2021. In an exclusive interview with Firstpost, Rakul Preet Singh and director Tejas Deoskar discussed their film, its focus on safe sex, and the persistent stigma around protection.
Tejas, known for his earlier work “Bucket List” with Madhuri Dixit, emphasized the importance of strong female characters in cinema. He stated, “The strongest characters around actors are often women. It’s essential to depict various aspects of society from a female perspective. While it’s not a deliberate goal to tell women’s stories, it’s coincidental that I found such compelling narratives after ‘Bucket List.'”
Rakul spoke about the need to change societal attitudes and raise awareness about safe sex. She remarked, “Despite government initiatives and educational campaigns, only 7% of people in India use condoms, which is alarmingly low for a highly populated nation. Changing mindsets is a gradual process, and films like ‘Chhatriwali’ can play a significant role in influencing public perception through entertainment.”
