Description: In London, Carla Burin, a stunning Venetian woman working as a hotel front desk intern, searches for an apartment to accommodate her boyfriend, Matteo. Moira, a bisexual real estate agent, rents Carla a loft overlooking the Thames with certain “intimate conditions.” When Matteo discovers a nude photo of Carla and letters from her French ex-lover, Bernard, a heated argument ensues over the phone. In her anger, Carla ends up sleeping with Moira. Desperate, Matteo travels to London, only to find Moira naked in Carla’s apartment.
Matteo confronts Carla about her past infidelities, rejecting her attempt to reconcile before leaving. However, after witnessing various sexual encounters during a walk in the park, he changes his mind. Carla presents him with a written account of her infidelities, but Matteo declares he no longer needs the details.
“Cheeky,” released in 2000 and directed by Tinto Brass, is a sex comedy starring Yuliya Mayarchuk as Carla. The film draws some parallels with Brass’s earlier work, “Nerosubianco,” also set in London. The Italian title cleverly plays on the words “trasgredire” (to transgress) and “tradire” (to betray). In a retrospective review, Sight & Sound described the film as a “corny soft-porn flick,” primarily offering viewers the chance to admire numerous “pert bottoms,” which director Tinto Brass humorously referred to as “windows to the soul” in an accompanying interview.
