The story follows Aditya, who escapes from an orphanage with a friend, only to be separated later. He learns tricks under a magician and eventually becomes a con artist involved in white-collar crimes. He befriends Yatra, who falsely accuses him of terrorism, leading to his imprisonment and a death sentence. In prison, Aditya develops an interest in chess, mastering the game with the help of fellow inmate Srimannarayana. He participates in national-level competitions while striving to prove his innocence with the assistance of a lawyer, Manasa, though his efforts fail.
Aditya aims for a presidential pardon by gaining fame through chess, winning national and Commonwealth tournaments. However, a terrorist attack during his pardon process results in the president denying his petition. Just before his execution, Aditya requests to play his final chess game with grandmaster Viswanathan Anand. During the match, he escapes prison, a plan he had devised with the help of a childhood friend and fellow inmate. Aditya justifies his escape by maintaining his innocence and vows to prove it to the world.
