To achieve this, he partnered with CIA operative Gust Avrakotos, who helped devise a strategic plan to counter Soviet forces, particularly their Mil Mi-24 Hind helicopter gunships.
With Wilson’s political influence and Avrakotos’ tactical expertise, the U.S. began supplying the mujahideen with advanced weaponry, including FIM-92 Stinger missiles. This support, along with contributions from Israel, Egypt, and Pakistan, turned the tide against the Soviet occupation, leading to significant losses of their military assets. The film highlights Wilson’s pivotal role in shaping a critical chapter of Cold War history.
