Description: The movie **Chakra** (2021) begins with a series of robberies on Independence Day, targeting the homes of elderly individuals. The robbers manage to loot 50 houses, leaving the police baffled. Gayathri, an aggressive officer, takes charge of the case. She discovers that the home of her boyfriend, army major Chandru, was also robbed. Chandru returns to find that the robbers not only attacked his grandmother but also stole his late father’s Paramvir Chakra medal. Determined to bring the criminals to justice, Chandru vows to track them down. However, the robbers have meticulously covered their tracks, raising the question of whether Chandru can outsmart the mastermind behind these crimes.
Conceptually, **Chakra** bears similarities to Vishal’s previous film, *Irumbu Thirai*, which also revolved around a clash between a tech-savvy criminal and an army officer personally affected by the crime. However, **Chakra** falls short in execution. Unlike *Irumbu Thirai*, which relied on well-researched storytelling, **Chakra** uses superficial writing that feels more like an information dump. The plot unfolds too conveniently, from Chandru taking over the police investigation to his tracking of the criminals. The emotional connection to the stolen medal is poorly established, with only a few lines explaining its significance.
The crime itself lacks complexity, and the antagonist’s actions don’t align with the intelligence the film attributes to them. In contrast, *Irumbu Thirai* effectively conveyed the threat posed by its antagonist, while **Chakra** struggles with weak character development and a less engaging narrative.
