**Storyline:**
Jaiprakash Paswan (Kamal Haasan) and Janki Paswan (Tabu) are entangled in a divorce case. Janki is the daughter of Durgaprasad Bhardwaj (Amrish Puri), a strict Hindu Brahmin businessman. Jaiprakash, a Hindu Dusadh, works as an assistant dance director in the film industry. Despite falling in love and marrying against Durgaprasad’s wishes, their relationship struggles under the pressures of middle-class life. Differences arise, leading Janki to leave. The court grants the divorce, and Jai is allowed to meet his daughter Bharti (Fatima Sana Shaikh) once a week. However, when he tries to take Bharti from the Bhardwaj home, he loses his visitation rights.
Seeking another way to be close to his daughter, Jai notices an advertisement for a nanny for Bharti posted by Durgaprasad. Jai disguises himself as an elderly woman named Lakshmi Godbole and applies for the position. With the help of a makeup artist, Joseph (Johnny Walker), Jai transforms into Lakshmi. During the interview, he is initially overlooked but wins over the family when he quickly aids Bharti during an accident. As Lakshmi, Jai navigates his new role while balancing his real-life commitments.
Bharti soon recognizes her father behind the disguise, but she keeps his secret. Meanwhile, Durgaprasad’s secretary, Banwarilal Pandit (Om Puri), grows suspicious of Lakshmi due to his dislike for her presence and his own ulterior motives involving Durgaprasad’s wealth. Jai continues to maintain his dual identity, striving to stay close to his daughter while uncovering the family’s underlying tensions.
