Description: Certified Copy is a 2010 film set in Tuscany, following British writer James Miller as he promotes his new book. In his book, titled *Certified Copy*, Miller argues that authenticity in art is irrelevant because every reproduction is inherently original, and even the original is a copy of another form. At a talk, he meets a French antiques dealer, whose name is never revealed, accompanied by her 11-year-old son. She leaves early to attend to her son but leaves her phone number with Miller’s translator.
Her relationship with her son is tense, as he teases her about her apparent interest in Miller. Later, Miller visits the woman’s antique shop, and instead of browsing her collection, they decide to take a drive. During their outing, they discuss the ideas in his book, including the concepts of authenticity and simplicity. Their conversation becomes strained as the woman grows increasingly distressed about her rebellious son, while Miller tries to rationalize the boy’s behavior.
At one point, the woman takes Miller to an art museum to view another famous “copy,” but Miller shows little interest, stating he has already completed his work on the subject. The film explores themes of identity, art, and relationships, delving into the blurred lines between reality and imitation.
