**Storyline:**
In 1963, Frank Abagnale, a teenager from New Rochelle, New York, lives with his father, Frank Abagnale Sr., and his French mother, Paula. When the family faces tax issues with the IRS, they are forced to move from their spacious home to a small apartment. Frank transfers to a public school and immediately gets into trouble by posing as a substitute French teacher on his first day.
Soon after, Frank discovers his mother’s affair with his father’s friend, Jack Barnes. Devastated by his parents’ divorce, Frank runs away and turns to confidence scams to survive. His schemes become increasingly bold as he impersonates an airline pilot and forges Pan Am payroll checks, eventually amassing millions of dollars.
FBI agent Carl Hanratty begins tracking Frank. During one encounter, Frank tricks Carl into believing he is a Secret Service agent also pursuing the fraudster, allowing him to escape. Frank continues his cons, impersonating both a doctor and a lawyer. As Dr. Frank Conners, he falls in love with Brenda, a naive hospital worker. He seeks permission to marry her and even passes the Louisiana State Bar exam with her father’s help.
At their engagement party, Carl tracks Frank down, but he escapes through a window. Frank asks Brenda to meet him at Miami airport two days later, but when he arrives, he spots plainclothes agents, realizing she has betrayed him. Forced to flee, Frank leaves Brenda behind.
Frank resumes his identity as a Pan Am pilot and organizes a fake stewardess recruitment drive at a local college. Using the group of stewardesses to blend in, he walks through the Miami airport unnoticed by Carl and the other agents, ultimately boarding a flight to Madrid, Spain.
