Description: In Piqua, Ohio, George Beard and Harold Hutchins, two fourth-grade friends and neighbors, frequently entertain their school, Jerome Horwitz Elementary, by playing pranks on the staff, particularly their harsh principal, Mr. Benjamin “Benny” Krupp. This often puts them at odds with him. The duo also writes comic books about a superhero named Captain Underpants, a character with superpowers who wears only underwear and a cape. They sell these comics to classmates through their own company, Treehouse Comix Inc., based in their treehouse.
Their mischievous streak appears to end when they are caught tampering with the Turbo Toilet 2000, an invention by the school’s snitch, Melvin Sneedly. This gives Mr. Krupp the opportunity to separate the boys into different classes, hoping to break their friendship. To prevent this, George hypnotizes Mr. Krupp using a “3D Hypno-Ring” from a cereal box. They realize Mr. Krupp resembles Captain Underpants without his toupee and command him to become the superhero. However, Captain Underpants soon starts causing chaos in Piqua, prompting the boys to take him to their treehouse.
There, they discover that splashing water turns Captain Underpants back into Mr. Krupp, while snapping their fingers transforms him back into Captain Underpants. Knowing Mr. Krupp will continue trying to separate them, they decide to keep Captain Underpants but insist he dress as Mr. Krupp to maintain a “secret identity.” This change in personality even catches the attention of the shy lunch lady, Edith.
Just as George and Harold think their troubles are over, a peculiar German-accented scientist named Professor Peepee Diareastein Poopypants Esq. arrives at the school. Captain Underpants (still disguised as Mr. Krupp) hires him as the new science teacher, but the boys become suspicious due to his short temper and violent behavior. It turns out Poopypants aims to eliminate laughter because people have ridiculed him for his name, as revealed in a flashback where he almost won a Nobel Prize but was laughed at instead.
