**Storyline:**
Set in 1995, the story follows Vers, a member of the Kree Empire’s elite Starforce, who struggles with amnesia and recurring nightmares of an older woman. Guided by her mentor, Yon-Rogg, she learns to harness her abilities while the Supreme Intelligence, the Kree’s ruling AI, advises her to suppress her emotions.
During a mission to rescue an undercover operative from the Skrulls, shapeshifting aliens at war with the Kree, Vers is captured by Skrull commander Talos. Upon probing her memories, they are led to Earth. Escaping her captors, Vers crash-lands in Los Angeles, drawing the attention of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents Nick Fury and Phil Coulson. A Skrull attack interrupts their investigation, and during the chaos, Vers retrieves a crystal containing her lost memories. Fury, discovering Coulson has been impersonated by a Skrull, teams up with Vers.
Disguised as Fury’s superior, Talos orders Fury to monitor Vers. Together, Vers and Fury uncover her past at Project Pegasus, a U.S. Air Force base, where she learns she was once Carol Danvers, a pilot presumed dead in 1989. She worked with Dr. Wendy Lawson, the woman from her nightmares, who was secretly Mar-Vell, a Kree scientist helping the Skrulls. A recording reveals that Yon-Rogg killed Mar-Vell, and Danvers destroyed the experimental engine, absorbing its energy and gaining powers but losing her memory.
In Louisiana, Danvers reunites with Maria Rambeau, a former pilot and close friend, who helps piece together her identity. Talos reveals the Skrulls are refugees seeking a new home, not the enemies the Kree depicted. With her memories restored, Danvers embraces her true self as Captain Marvel, ready to confront her past and protect the galaxy.
