**Plot Summary:**
An American documentary team vanishes in the Amazon rainforest while filming indigenous cannibal tribes. The group includes director Alan Yates, his girlfriend and scriptwriter Faye Daniels, and cameramen Jack Anders and Mark Tomaso. Harold Monroe, an anthropologist from New York University, agrees to lead a rescue mission to locate the missing filmmakers. Prior to his arrival, military forces in the region raid the Yacumo tribe, taking a young man hostage to negotiate with the natives. Monroe arrives by floatplane and meets his guides, Chaco and Miguel.
After days of navigating the jungle, the rescue team encounters the Yacumo tribe. They secure the release of the hostage in exchange for being led to the village. Upon arrival, they face hostility and learn that the filmmakers caused significant disruption among the tribe. Monroe and his guides then venture deeper into the rainforest to find two warring cannibal tribes, the Ya̧nomamö and the Shamatari.
They encounter Shamatari warriors and follow them to a riverbank, where they rescue a smaller group of Ya̧nomamö from a deadly fate. In gratitude, the Ya̧nomamö invite the team to their village but remain wary of the outsiders. To earn their trust, Monroe bathes naked in a river alongside Ya̧nomamö women, who later lead him to a shrine. There, he discovers the skeletal remains of the filmmakers and their film reels.
Shocked by the discovery, Monroe confronts the Ya̧nomamö in the village. He plays music from a tape recorder, captivating the tribe, who agree to trade it for the recovered film reels.
Back in New York, executives from the Pan American Broadcasting System invite Monroe to host a broadcast of the documentary created from the recovered footage. However, Monroe insists on reviewing the raw material before making a decision.
