Description: Thirty years after the events of the original film, visual artist Anthony McCoy lives in Chicago with his girlfriend, Brianna Cartwright, who is an art gallery director. Brianna’s brother, Troy, shares the urban legend of Helen Lyle, a graduate student who went on a killing spree in the early 1990s. Her rampage ended when she attempted to sacrifice a baby during a bonfire outside the Cabrini-Green housing project. The baby was rescued, but Helen died in the flames, seemingly by self-immolation.
Seeking inspiration to revive his career, Anthony explores Cabrini-Green and meets William Burke, a laundromat owner who tells him the story of the Candyman. Burke recounts his childhood encounter with Sherman Fields, a hook-handed man wrongly accused of placing a razor blade in a piece of candy that harmed a white girl. After Burke alerted the police, Sherman was beaten to death. When similar incidents continued, Sherman was proven innocent, and the legend grew that saying “Candyman” five times in front of a mirror would summon his spirit to kill the summoner.
Inspired by the tale, Anthony creates an art exhibit centered on the Candyman myth and displays it at Brianna’s gallery. However, the exhibit receives a cold reception. That night, one of Brianna’s colleagues and his girlfriend are murdered by the Candyman after invoking his name in front of a mirror from Anthony’s exhibit. The killings spread as more people repeat the ritual, including an art critic and a group of teenage girls.
Meanwhile, Anthony undergoes a physical transformation after a bee sting on his hand causes a spreading scab across his body. At the hospital, he discovers his mother, Anne-Marie, lied about his birthplace. Confronted, she reveals he was the baby Helen rescued the night she died.
