Description: Set in the summer of 1983, “Call Me by Your Name” follows Elio, a 17-year-old Jewish Italo-French teenager, as he spends his days in rural Northern Italy with his parents. His father, an archaeology professor, invites Oliver, a 24-year-old American graduate student, to stay with them and assist with academic work. Elio, a thoughtful book lover and skilled musician, initially feels he has little in common with the confident and carefree Oliver. As the summer unfolds, Elio divides his time between reading, playing piano, and spending time with friends Chiara and Marzia.
During a volleyball game, Oliver subtly expresses interest by touching Elio’s back, though Elio dismisses it. However, Elio begins to feel jealous when Oliver starts pursuing Chiara. Despite this, Elio and Oliver gradually grow closer, taking long walks and accompanying Elio’s father on an archaeological excursion. Elio becomes increasingly drawn to Oliver, even sneaking into his room to smell his clothes. Eventually, Elio confesses his feelings, leaving Oliver stunned and hesitant. Days later, they share their first kiss in a secluded spot, though Oliver remains cautious about taking things further.
Elio briefly reconnects with Marzia, and the two become intimate. He later leaves a note for Oliver, ending their silence. Oliver responds, asking Elio to meet him at midnight, and they spend the night together. In a tender moment, Oliver tells Elio, “Call me by your name, and I’ll call you by mine.” The next morning, Elio is overcome with emotion, realizing how little time they have left. Marzia, hurt by Elio’s sudden distance, confronts him, but he responds coldly, leaving her heartbroken. As Oliver’s departure nears, both he and Elio grapple with their deepening emotions and the inevitable farewell.
