**Storyline:**
A hermit wandering through the forest discovers his dog, which has died from a blood infection. Tragically, the hermit also becomes infected. Meanwhile, a group of college students—Jeff, Marcy, Paul, Karen, and Bert—head to a remote cabin to celebrate spring break. During their stay, Bert ventures out to hunt squirrels but instead encounters the now disfigured and bloodied hermit. Despite the hermit’s desperate pleas for help, Bert panics and flees, keeping the encounter to himself.
That evening, the group gathers around a campfire, where they meet a friendly drifter named Grimm and his dog, Dr. Mambo. When rain begins to fall, Grimm leaves to pack his belongings. As the friends wait indoors, the hermit returns, begging for assistance. Bert shuts the door on him, prompting the hermit to attempt stealing their car while vomiting blood. When the hermit approaches Marcy and Karen, Paul accidentally sets him on fire.
The next day, Jeff and Bert seek help but are turned away by a butcher who reveals she is the hermit’s cousin. Paul encounters Deputy Winston, who promises to send a tow truck. Meanwhile, Karen becomes distraught over the hermit’s death. Paul tries to comfort her, but during an intimate moment, he discovers an infection spreading in her groin. The group isolates her in a shed.
As the situation escalates, Bert coughs up blood but hides his symptoms. After fixing the truck, he drives away when Paul and Jeff realize he’s infected. Jeff, terrified of catching the disease, abandons the group with the remaining beer. Bert seeks help at a convenience store but is chased away after an altercation with the owner’s son.
Back at the cabin, Marcy expresses her fears of contracting the infection. Paul consoles her, leading to an impulsive encounter. Regretting his actions, Paul leaves while Marcy takes a bath. As she shaves her legs, her flesh begins to peel off, and in a panic, she runs outside, only to be attacked and devoured by Dr. Mambo.
