Description: “Bullet in the Head” is a 1990 film set in 1967 Hong Kong, following the lives of three childhood friends—Ben, Paul, and Frank—who are members of a gang. They frequently clash with rival gangs, leading to escalating conflicts. Ben becomes engaged to his girlfriend, Jane, and Frank secures a loan to fund their wedding reception. However, Frank is attacked by Ringo, the leader of a rival gang, over the money. After the wedding, Ben and Frank retaliate, but Frank goes too far and kills Ringo.
To evade the police, the trio flees Hong Kong and heads to Vietnam, lured by rumors of lucrative smuggling opportunities during the war. They procure smuggled goods from a Hong Kong dealer and agree to deliver them to Leong, a Vietnamese gangster. Upon arriving in Saigon, their cargo is destroyed by a Vietcong suicide bomber targeting an Army of the Republic of Vietnam officer. Mistaken as suspects, they are arrested and brutalized until the actual bomber is captured and executed in their presence.
Later, they encounter Luke, a hitman working for Leong, who dreams of escaping Vietnam with Sally, a nightclub singer kidnapped and forced into prostitution by Leong. Together, they devise a plan to rescue her, but it spirals into chaos, resulting in a violent shootout at the nightclub. During the turmoil, Paul discovers a stash of gold in Leong’s office and steals it. They manage to escape, but Sally is shot and injured.
The next morning, the group waits by the river for a boat to take them to safety. Ben and Frank focus on Sally’s condition, while Paul keeps a close watch on the stolen gold. The film explores themes of loyalty, survival, and the devastating consequences of their actions.
