Description: Brooklyn is a 2015 film that tells the story of Eilis Lacey, a young woman from Enniscorthy, County Wexford, in southeast Ireland. Living with her mother and sister, Rose, Eilis struggles to find full-time work and spends her weekends employed at a local shop run by the unkind Miss Kelly. Disinterested in the local men, Eilis’s sister arranges for her to move to New York City with the help of an Irish priest, Father Flood.
During the journey, Eilis suffers from seasickness and faces difficulties, but she receives support from a fellow traveler. Upon arriving in New York, she settles into a Brooklyn boarding house with other Irish women but struggles to adapt. Father Flood enrolls her in bookkeeping classes at Brooklyn College, as Eilis aspires to become an accountant. At an Irish dance, she meets Tony Fiorello, a kind-hearted Italian-American plumber. Their relationship blossoms, and Eilis gradually adjusts to her new life.
Tragedy strikes when Eilis’s sister passes away, prompting her to return home to support her mother. Before leaving, Tony proposes, and they secretly marry at City Hall. Back in Ireland, Eilis temporarily takes over her sister’s bookkeeping job and is introduced to Jim Farrell, a wealthy bachelor. She becomes torn between her life in Ireland and her new life in Brooklyn, delaying her return and avoiding Tony’s letters. However, when Jim nearly proposes, Eilis realizes her true commitment lies with Tony and her life in Brooklyn.
