Originally, Prithviraj Sukumaran planned to direct “Empuraan,” a sequel to his debut film “Lucifer” (2019), but the COVID-19 pandemic delayed production. On June 16, 2021, he shared on Instagram that he had been inspired by a story concept from his daughter Alankrita but decided to pursue a different screenplay that fit the pandemic’s constraints. The restrictions led filmmakers to create “contained films” that could be produced under limited conditions. Prithviraj noted the lack of feel-good movies in Malayalam cinema during this period, as most projects were dark or intense. When Sreejith and Maliekal presented the script for “Bro Daddy,” he found it humorous, engaging, and a refreshing departure from recent trends. Mohanlal immediately agreed to join the project after hearing the story, and Prithviraj Productions acquired the screenplay.
