**Storyline:**
Jesse “Jess” Aarons, an 11-year-old aspiring artist, lives with his financially struggling family in Lark Creek. He attends school with his younger sister, May Belle, where he tries to avoid the school bully, Janice Avery. In class, Jess faces bullying from classmates Scott Hoager and Gary Fulcher. When a new student named Leslie Burke arrives, she unexpectedly wins a running race Jess had been training for, irritating him. On their way home, Jess and Leslie discover they are neighbors.
Jess has a strained relationship with his father, who favors May Belle, and his mother makes him wear his older sister’s sneakers due to their financial hardships. At school, Leslie compliments Jess’s drawing skills, sparking a friendship. Together, they explore the woods, swing across a creek, and discover an abandoned treehouse. They name their newfound world “Terabithia,” spending their free time there, bonding and sharing stories.
On Jesse’s birthday, Leslie gifts him an art kit. However, Jess’s frustration with his father leads him to lose faith in Terabithia, denying its existence at school. Later, he apologizes to Leslie by giving her a puppy, whom she names Prince Terrien (P.T.). In Terabithia, they encounter imaginative creatures—a giant troll resembling Janice, squirrel-like “Sqoagers” representing Hoager, and “Hairy Vultures” resembling Fulcher. At school, Leslie grows frustrated with Janice’s bullying, prompting Jess and Leslie to play a prank on her.
