**Storyline:**
In 1462, Vlad Dracula returns victorious from a battle against the Turks only to discover that his wife Elisabeta has taken her own life after being misled by false reports of his death. A priest condemns her soul to Hell for committing suicide. Consumed by rage, Dracula defiles the chapel, renounces God, and vows to rise from the grave to avenge Elisabeta using the powers of darkness. He stabs the stone cross in the chapel, drinking the blood that flows from it.
By 1897, Jonathan Harker, a solicitor, takes on Count Dracula as a client after his colleague Renfield descends into madness and is confined to Dr. Jack Seward’s asylum. Jonathan travels to Transylvania to assist Dracula with real estate acquisitions in London. Upon meeting Dracula, the Count discovers a photograph of Jonathan’s fiancée, Mina Murray, who he believes is Elisabeta reincarnated. Dracula leaves Jonathan at the mercy of his brides while he sets sail for England with crates of Transylvanian soil, settling at Carfax Abbey, his newly acquired property. Renfield’s ramblings hint at Dracula’s arrival.
In London, Dracula emerges as a wolf-like creature during a storm and hypnotically seduces Lucy Westenra, a friend of Mina’s. Lucy’s declining health and strange behavior lead her suitors—Quincey Morris, Dr. Seward, and her fiancé Arthur Holmwood—to seek help from Dr. Abraham Van Helsing, Seward’s mentor. Van Helsing identifies Lucy as a vampire victim. Meanwhile, Dracula, appearing youthful and charming by day, enchants Mina. When Mina learns of Jonathan’s escape from Dracula’s castle and his recovery at a convent, she travels to Romania to marry him. Enraged, Dracula transforms Lucy into a vampire, forcing Van Helsing and the others to destroy her before she harms a young girl.
