Description: Brahmastra Part One: Shiva is a 2022 Indian Hindi-language fantasy adventure film written and directed by Ayan Mukerji. The movie is produced by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Namit Malhotra, and Mukerji under Dharma Productions, Starlight Pictures, and Prime Focus in association with Star Studios. This film is the first installment of a planned trilogy and is part of an extended cinematic universe called Astraverse.
The story follows Shiva, a DJ who discovers his unique connection with the element of fire. He possesses the ability to awaken the Brahmastra, a supernatural weapon capable of destroying the universe. Meanwhile, Junoon, the queen of dark forces, seeks to obtain the Brahmastra for her own sinister purposes.
Announced in July 2014, the project faced several delays, including those caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Principal photography took place over five years, from February 2018 to March 2022, with filming locations spanning Bulgaria, London, New York, Edinburgh, Thailand, Manali, Mumbai, and Varanasi. With an estimated budget of ₹410 crore (US$51 million), it is one of the most expensive Indian films ever made.
Brahmastra Part One: Shiva was released on September 9, 2022, in various formats, including standard, 3D, IMAX 3D, and 4DX 3D. The film was distributed by Star Studios in India and Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures worldwide. It is available in multiple languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam, in a single file.
This marks the first film produced under the Star Studios banner following Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox. The movie has generated significant attention as a groundbreaking addition to Indian cinema.
