**Plot Summary:**
In Arizona, Dignan “rescues” his friend Anthony from a voluntary psychiatric facility, where Anthony has been staying due to self-described exhaustion. Dignan presents an elaborate 75-year plan, which involves committing several heists and eventually collaborating with Mr. Henry, a landscaper and part-time criminal known to Dignan.
As a practice run, the two break into Anthony’s family home, stealing specific items from a prearranged list. However, Dignan takes a pair of earrings not included on the list, which upsets Anthony since he had bought them as a gift for his mother. Anthony later visits his sister at school to retrieve the earrings.
Dignan recruits Bob Mapplethorpe as their getaway driver, as he is the only person they know with a car. The trio purchases a gun and plans their next heist at a local bookstore. Despite Dignan’s detailed planning, the group struggles to stay united.
After stealing a small amount of money from the bookstore, they go on the run and stop at a motel. There, Anthony meets Inez, a maid who speaks little English, and the two develop a romantic connection despite the language barrier. Meanwhile, Bob discovers his marijuana crop has been found by police, and his brother has been arrested. Without informing Dignan, Bob leaves to help his brother.
Before departing the motel, Anthony gives Dignan an envelope to deliver to Inez, unaware it contains most of their money. Dignan gives it to her without checking its contents, and Inez, not realizing what’s inside, hugs him goodbye.
