Description: Boston Strangler 2023 is a collaborative production by Scott Free Productions, LuckyChap Entertainment, and 20th Century Studios. Directed and written by Matt Ruskin and produced by Ridley Scott, Kevin J. Walsh, Michael Pruss, Tom Ackerley, and Josey McNamara, the film gained considerable attention after Keira Knightley joined the cast on October 4, 2021. Additional cast members, including Carrie Coon, Alessandro Nivola, Chris Cooper, and David Dastmalchian, were announced in November 2021, with Robert John Burke and Morgan Spector confirmed in early 2022.
Cinematographer Ben Kutchins led the film’s visual storytelling. Filming commenced on December 6, 2021, with various locations in Massachusetts serving as key sets. A house in Belmont doubled as the home of reporter Loretta McLaughlin, while the Winn Brook Elementary School was transformed into the Cambridge Police Department. The production rented private driveways on Statler and Waterhouse Roads to park 1960s-era vehicles, and scenes were later shot in the South End on Dwight Street between Tremont Street and Shawmut Avenue.
The Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology was temporarily converted into a police headquarters on December 9. Between January 26 and January 27, 2022, the former Josephine M. Foster Elementary School in Braintree was used as a set. Filming continued in other Massachusetts locations, including Jamaica Plain, Lowell, Lynn, Malden, Roxbury, and Wellesley.
