Description: The story of *Border* (1997) unfolds just before the start of the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. Indian Air Force Wing Commander Anand “Andy” Bajwa, played by Jackie Shroff, and his team are dispatched to an undisclosed airbase in Rajasthan. There, they receive orders to support the Indian Army in the Jaisalmer sector using Hawker Hunter ground attack aircraft. During a courier flight, Andy meets army Major Kuldip Singh Chandpuri, portrayed by Sunny Deol, and they discuss the potential opening of the Western front amid the East Pakistan conflict.
Kuldip assumes command of the 23rd Battalion Punjab Regiment, consisting of 120 soldiers. He leads them to the Longewala military post, where he questions the minimal defense measures in place. He is joined by 2nd Lieutenant Dharamveer Singh Bhan, played by Akshaye Khanna, and Company JCO Naib Subedar Mathura Das, portrayed by Sudesh Berry. The battalion works to strengthen the remote BSF outpost in the Rajasthan desert while monitoring the international border with Pakistan. They also meet BSF Assistant Commandant Bhairav Singh Rathod, played by Sunil Shetty, a deeply patriotic individual who expresses his profound connection to the desert.
During a nighttime patrol, Kuldip, Dharamveer, and Bhairav encounter a group of suspicious locals who are revealed to be insurgents providing intelligence to the Pakistani military. Kuldip and Bhairav eliminate most of the insurgents, but Dharamveer hesitates to kill the last surviving insurgent, having never taken a life in combat. Kuldip harshly reprimands him and executes the insurgent himself, leaving Dharamveer deeply shaken, as he vomits in distress.
