Description: Bombay Velvet (2015) is a Hindi-language film set in 1969 Bombay. The story follows Balraj, a street fighter and boxer, who falls in love with Rosie, a jazz singer. Seeing Rosie with wealthy men fuels Balraj’s ambition to become a “big shot,” believing wealth will win her heart. Balraj and his friend Chimman attract the attention of Kaizad Khambatta, a wealthy businessman. Khambatta offers Balraj the opportunity to manage his club, Bombay Velvet, which the businessman uses for illegal activities. He nicknames Balraj “Johnny,” a name that becomes his identity. Johnny and Chimman assist Khambatta in tasks, including blackmailing a minister by capturing compromising photos of him.
This news reaches Jimmy Mistri, a media reporter who is also the wealthy man seen with Rosie earlier. Mistri exploits Johnny’s feelings for Rosie by sending her to his club to retrieve the minister’s photograph. However, Johnny and Rosie fall in love, prompting Mistri to threaten Rosie with exposing her true identity to Johnny. Fearing this, Rosie begins leaking information about Johnny and Khambatta’s activities to Mistri. When a photo of a secret meeting among Bombay’s elite is leaked, Khambatta suspects Rosie and orders her killed. Johnny, upon learning this, turns against Khambatta, the man who brought him into the world of crime.
To protect Rosie, Johnny fakes her death and disguises her as her deceased twin sister, Rita. However, Khambatta discovers the truth, kidnaps Rosie, and attempts to kill Johnny. A confrontation ensues at Bombay Velvet, where Khambatta shoots Rosie to provoke Johnny. Enraged, Johnny stabs Khambatta but is fatally shot while trying to take Rosie to the hospital. The film concludes with the revelation that Rosie survived her gunshot wound.
