Description: Bolo Dugga Maiki is a 2017 Bengali film that follows the story of Shyamo, a carefree young man who leads an extravagant life with his two best friends. Due to his reckless behavior, Shyamo is disowned by his grandfather and forced to leave home. The plot takes an adventurous turn when Shyamo takes a selfie with a sleeping girl on a train, which quickly goes viral.
The film, directed by Raj Chakraborty, starts promisingly but struggles to maintain its momentum due to an average script and direction. The opening scenes introduce Shyamo’s grandfather celebrating his academic achievements, only to discover that Shyamo is more interested in partying than studying. While this setup hints at potential, the film ultimately becomes a generic comedy.
Ankush, who plays the protagonist, delivers a commendable performance, showcasing his growth as a comedic actor. His expressions, timing, and body language are spot-on, but the material he works with is mediocre and aimed at a simplistic audience. A recurring gag in the film involves Shyamo being slapped repeatedly by various characters, which, while intended as physical comedy, becomes repetitive and tiresome.
Nusrat, the female lead, enters the story towards the end of the first half. She portrays a heartbroken girl betrayed by her ex-boyfriend and performs well, particularly in her scenes with Ankush. The pair shares good chemistry, especially during the song sequences, where they truly shine. However, the script doesn’t give her character enough depth or agency to stand out.
Overall, Bolo Dugga Maiki offers moments of entertainment but falls short of delivering a compelling narrative or memorable cinematic experience.
