Description: In 1985, Queen is set to perform at Bob Geldof’s Live Aid benefit concert held at Wembley Stadium. The story then shifts back to 1970, where Farrokh Bulsara, later known as Freddie Mercury, works as a baggage handler at Heathrow Airport and lives with his parents and sister. After attending a performance by the band Smile at a local pub, Farrokh approaches the band’s drummer, Roger Taylor, and guitarist, Brian May, following the departure of their lead singer, Tim Staffell. Farrokh impresses them with his singing and joins the band as their new frontman.
During this time, Farrokh meets Mary Austin, a boutique worker, and the two begin a relationship. With the addition of bassist John Deacon, the band starts playing gigs across Britain. Farrokh encourages the group to aim higher, even suggesting they sell their van to fund their first album. While recording late one night, an EMI representative approaches them, leading to their first big break.
Farrokh adopts the stage name Freddie Mercury, and the band rebrands itself as Queen. They sign a management deal with John Reid, Elton John’s manager, and embark on a U.S. tour. Paul Prenter, who is drawn to Freddie, becomes their day-to-day manager. Queen earns their first hit, “Killer Queen,” after an appearance on *Top of the Pops*. Although Freddie proposes to Mary, he begins to question his sexuality during the band’s U.S. tour.
In 1975, Queen records their fourth studio album, *A Night at the Opera*. However, disagreements arise with EMI executive Ray Foster, who refuses to release the six-minute track “Bohemian Rhapsody” as the album’s lead single. Freddie collaborates with radio DJ Kenny Everett to premiere the song on his show. Despite initial mixed reviews, “Bohemian Rhapsody” becomes a global success. Following a world tour, Freddie admits to an affair with Paul and confides in Mary about his bisexuality. Mary suggests he is gay, and though they separate, they remain close friends.
