Description: The 10th Division of Soul Reapers, led by Captain Tōshirō Hitsugaya and Vice-Captain Rangiku Matsumoto, is tasked with escorting the “King’s Seal.” However, the rare artifact is stolen during transport by a rogue Soul Reaper named Sōjirō Kusaka and two individuals known as Ying and Yang. Hitsugaya, seemingly recognizing Kusaka, is wounded and abandons his post to pursue him, leaving his squad defenseless. Consequently, Soul Society suspects Hitsugaya of treason, orders his capture, and places his entire squad under house arrest.
In the human world, Ichigo Kurosaki learns about the events unfolding in Soul Society and discovers Hitsugaya, who collapses upon their encounter. After recovering at Ichigo’s home, Hitsugaya is attacked by Ying and Yang. While Ichigo defends them, Hitsugaya escapes and evades Soul Society’s attempts to apprehend him. Suspicion against Hitsugaya grows when Kusaka attacks a Soul Society captain using Hyōrinmaru, a zanpakutō with powers identical to Hitsugaya’s. As a result, Hitsugaya’s capture becomes a top priority, and his execution is authorized.
During his efforts to avoid capture, Hitsugaya eventually locates Kusaka. It is revealed that both men once manifested the same zanpakutō. Since Soul Society prohibits multiple individuals from wielding identical zanpakutō, the two were forced into a deadly duel. While Hitsugaya was reluctant to fight, Kusaka insisted he was the sole rightful owner of Hyōrinmaru. Soul Society ultimately declared Hitsugaya as the true wielder and executed Kusaka. Upon his death, Kusaka was reborn as a Hollow in Hueco Mundo. After learning of the King’s Seal’s power to manipulate time, space, and matter, Kusaka plots his revenge against Soul Society.
