Description: “Blades of Glory” (2007) tells the story of two rival figure skaters, Chazz Michael Michaels and Jimmy MacElroy. Chazz is a street-smart, self-taught skater with a wild personality and a reputation as a sex addict. Jimmy, on the other hand, is a refined and sheltered skater raised by a wealthy adoptive father, Darren MacElroy, who scouts children with exceptional athletic talent. Despite their contrasting backgrounds, both skaters are highly skilled in their sport.
At the 2002 World Winter Sport Games, Chazz and Jimmy tie for the gold medal. However, their rivalry escalates into a public fight on the awards podium, resulting in the accidental burning of the event’s mascot. This incident leads to both skaters being stripped of their medals and banned from competitive skating for life by the National Figure Skating Association. In the aftermath, Darren disowns Jimmy, leaving him to struggle with his new reality.
Three and a half years later, both men are stuck in unfulfilling jobs. Jimmy works at a sporting goods store, while Chazz performs in a children’s ice show until he’s fired for showing up drunk. Meanwhile, Jimmy’s obsessive stalker, Hector, discovers a loophole in the ban: it only prohibits them from men’s singles skating, leaving the door open for pair skating. Desperate to return to the sport, Jimmy seeks out his former coach, Darren Goddard, and proposes forming the first-ever male-male pairs team with Chazz.
Initially reluctant and still at odds, the two skaters eventually agree to partner up under Coach Goddard’s guidance. To succeed, they must overcome their differences and master a never-before-successfully-performed move called the “Iron Lotus,” a highly complex and dangerous maneuver. Can Chazz and Jimmy set aside their rivalry, work together, and reclaim their place in the skating world?
