Description: Bimbisara is a 2022 Indian fantasy action film in Telugu, written and directed by debutant Mallidi Vassishta and produced by N. T. R. Arts. The movie features Nandamuri Kalyan Ram, Catherine Tresa, Samyuktha Menon, and Prakash Raj in key roles. The story revolves around King Bimbisara of the Trigartala Empire, who, after a time-travel event, finds himself in the modern world.
Filming commenced in 2020 but faced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, concluding in November 2021. With a budget of ₹40 crore, much of the movie was shot at Ramakrishna Studios in Hyderabad. The film’s music was composed by M. M. Keeravani, with songs by Chirrantan Bhatt. Released on August 5, 2022, Bimbisara garnered positive reviews and performed well at the box office. It is set for a digital premiere on ZEE5 starting October 21, 2022.
The plot unfolds in 500 BCE when a wanderer and his companion are pursued by soldiers in a forest. They stumble into a cave where mysterious skeletons emerge from mirrors, dragging the soldiers into them. The wanderer escapes by breaking a mirror, inadvertently releasing a demon. In gratitude, the demon gifts him a mirror that enables time travel.
In the present day, Shastri, assisted by sorcerer Kethu, attempts to access Bimbisara’s treasure but dies in the process. His son, Subramanya Shastri, grows up to become a renowned doctor determined to fulfill his father’s quest. Meanwhile, in the past, Bimbisara, a tyrannical ruler of the Trigartala Empire, seeks to expand his dominion. After conquering the Asmaka Kingdom and imprisoning Princess Ira, he acquires the time-traveling mirror and keeps it in his chamber.
The film blends mythology, fantasy, and action, offering a unique narrative of power, ambition, and time travel.
