Description: Bilocation, or sometimes referred to as multilocation, is a claimed psychic or miraculous ability in which a person or object appears to exist in two different places simultaneously. This phenomenon has been reported across various historical and religious contexts, including ancient Greek legends, Christian traditions, and modern occultism.
The ancient Greek philosopher Pythagoras was said to possess the ability to bilocate, as noted by Porphyry centuries later. The concept has also been associated with shamanism, Theosophy, Sufism, and Jewish mysticism. In Hinduism and Buddhism, bilocation is considered one of the Siddhis, or spiritual powers. Prominent figures such as Neem Karoli Baba, Sri Yukteswar, and Lahiri Mahasaya have reportedly demonstrated this ability.
The English occultist Aleister Crowley was also believed to have experienced bilocation, although he claimed to be unaware of it at the time. In Christian history, there are numerous accounts of miraculous bilocations, including the apparition of Our Lady of the Pillar in 40 CE, where the Virgin Mary allegedly appeared in Spain while still residing in Jerusalem.
Other Christian saints associated with bilocation include Saint Drogo, Anthony of Padua, Francis of Paola, Francis Xavier, Martin de Porres, María de Ágreda, María de León Bello y Delgado, Alphonsus Liguori, Gerard Majella, and Pio of Pietrelcina. However, there is debate among Catholic philosophers as to whether bilocation involves a physical presence in two places or simply the appearance of non-substantial apparitions.
