Description: In New York City, Sonny Koufax is a 32-year-old slacker who avoids responsibility, living off compensation from a minor accident and working just one day a week as a toll booth attendant. Despite having a law degree, he refuses to take the bar exam. His girlfriend, Vanessa, threatens to leave him unless he becomes more responsible. Meanwhile, his roommate, Kevin, proposes to his girlfriend, Corinne, before leaving for China on a work assignment. Sonny often teases Corinne, who dislikes him, about her past job at Hooters.
One day, Sonny discovers Julian, a five-year-old boy, abandoned at their apartment. A note reveals that Julian’s mother can no longer care for him and that Kevin is his biological father. Confused but determined, Sonny agrees to look after Julian until Kevin returns. Hoping to win Vanessa back, Sonny introduces her to Julian, only to find she is now dating Sid, a much older man she admires for his ambition and intelligence.
Sonny poses as Kevin and takes Julian to meet social worker Arthur Brooks, hoping to send Julian back to his mother. However, Brooks informs him that Julian’s mother has passed away. Reluctantly, Sonny decides to raise Julian himself. Over time, the two form a strong bond, and Julian helps Sonny connect with Layla, Corinne’s lawyer sister. Despite their growing relationship, Brooks becomes suspicious when Sonny ignores his messages about finding a foster home for Julian. A meeting at Julian’s school forces Sonny to reconsider his unconventional parenting methods.
